FAQ

How can therapy help me?

Therapy can help you get to know yourself better, clarify issues that matter to you and develop your potential. It gives you the opportunity to work in ways which promote your ability to resolve problems, or to develop coping skills for things which cannot be changed. Talking to someone that you don't know personally can allow you to be completely honest in a safe and secure environment. I will listen and help you reflect on your experiences, helping you to find your own solutions and answers, without judgement. Therapy will help you to process your emotions, look at things from a different perspective, and most importantly not feel alone.

Is therapy confidential?

Therapy is confidential. I am ethically bound to keep what you share private. The only exception would be if I feel that you, or somebody else is at risk of serious harm. Please also note that as a registered therapist I am obliged to have a supervisor oversee my work, to ensure I'm maintaining a high level of assistance to my clients. While I might discuss the generalities of your case with my supervisor, I would not divulge your identity, and my supervisor would also be under oath to protect the privacy of any information that is shared.

Does online therapy work?

Recent research has shown that online therapy is effective and in many ways not dissimilar to face to face work. It allows you to process your issues in the place you feel most at ease - your home. Online therapy allows us to work together in a more flexible way and this can make it easier to maintain regular sessions. There are other benefits too, such as not having to travel or spend extra money on travelling or parking, and you can work with me from wherever you are in the UK.

How many sessions do I need?

This can differ depending on what you hope to achieve from the process. We would discuss this in our initial telephone consultation. As a guide 6-12 sessions is considered as short term therapy and can help with resolving many of life's common problems such as anxiety and stress. More complex issues can take longer to resolve and I offer longer term therapy in this respect. Regardless of what we agree as a rough guide to how may sessions you may need, you are under no obligation to commit to a fixed number of sessions. We would review your progress regularly and you are free to end your counselling at any time.

How can I pay for my sessions?

Payment for sessions is accepted via bank transfer, preferably 48 hours prior to your session.

What's your cancellation policy?

Where more than 24 hours notice is provided, you will not have to pay for the session. Under 24 hours notice, the session is payable in full. Where possible, in either circumstance, I will always endeavour to accommodate a different day/time for that week if desired.
